Sunday Morning's Sermon

Sanitizing Sins:
Introduction & Definition

Introduction
This morning marks the beginning of a new series of lessons. For 5 weeks or so, we are going to revisit the common problems of all mankind... the existence of sin in our lives. This series will be different than some of you may have heard on this subject in that the intent is to discover those areas in our lives where sin may exist without recognition. This morning we are going to define what I mean by "Sanitizied Sins", then as we progress through this series we will talk about "Mental Sins", "Spiritual Sins", "Verbal Sins", and "Cultural Sins".

  1. The word "sanitized" means to make more acceptable by removing certain objectionable features.
  2. As sin is biblically defined as "missing the mark", the mark we might miss is neither tradition, or personal likes or dislikes, but rather God's word.
  3. There are areas in the lives of each one present here today in which we have become as comfortable that certain sins we commit no longer appear to be sinful... they have become "sanitized."

About Us...

We are a group of Christians who use the New Testament as the pattern and guide for all we do. Our goal as a congregation is to worship, exalt, and glorify Jesus Christ, not ourselves or any other person or thing. Therefore, our efforts are directed toward promoting commitment to Christ, not to any man or institution.

Our worship is simple but meaningful, consisting of singing, praying, sharing in the communion, teaching and preaching from God's word and giving a free-will offering for the work of the church.

Receiving Kindness

"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Luke 6:38)

We learn to be kind by receiving kindness. The greatest kindness any of us has ever known is that of the Almighty through Jesus Christ. In difficult times in our relationships we must reflect on what we have received in order to properly judge what we should give.

Young people need to be guided into a proper apprecieation for the kindness of God that has appeared to us in order to be able to manifest a like kindness toward the world.

Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to asociate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. (Romans 12:16)

And, as with anything, practice makes perfect, create for your family opportunities to practice the virtue of kindness. There are plenty of good works to be done.
